Virginia Mary Strzelczyk McTigue

January 5, 1925 – July 7, 2025

Virginia Mary Strzelczyk McTigue passed away peacefully at 5:30 a.m. on July 7, 2025, in Weslaco, Texas, at the remarkable age of 100. She was born on January 5, 1925, in West Allis, Wisconsin, to Ruzalija (Rose) Borzyczkowski and Frank John Strzelczyk. The last surviving child of her family, Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved siblings Robert, Ray, Joseph, and her sister Elenore Margaret, who passed in early childhood before Virginia was born.

Known to many as Jeanne, she lived a life filled with adventure, connection, purpose, and joy. Raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she later made homes in New Berlin and North Lake, Wisconsin; Boise, McCall, and Lewiston, Idaho; Alamo, Texas (Alamo Country Club); Las Vegas, Nevada; Hemet, California; and finally, at the John Knox Village in Weslaco, Texas.

Jeanne was grounded in strong Midwestern values and a deep sense of community. Her early years included not only the duties of a housewife and mother but also work that reflected her passion for education and empowerment. She became a Division Manager for World Book Encyclopedia, where she loved teaching young mothers about the importance of early childhood education. In her 90s, she embraced a new chapter as a Wellness Advocate with doTERRA Essential Oils, continuing her lifelong commitment to sharing knowledge and natural health solutions.

She married Martin Joseph McTigue in December 1, 1945 in Milwaukee. Together, they raised four children and shared a life built on love, faith, and cherished traditions until Martin's passing in 1998. In 2000, she married Harland G. Grunder Sr., with whom she embraced an entirely new chapter of joy, dancing, and travel. Though she never adopted the Grunder name, their union brought many shared memories—especially aboard cruise ships and during their winters together at Lifestyle Holiday Vacation Club in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, where they danced nearly every night, earning the affectionate title of “Mr. and Mrs. Lifestyle.”

Throughout her life, Jeanne traveled extensively with Friendship Force International, promoting cultural understanding and connecting with people from around the world. At age 93, she even embarked on a six-month world cruise—an adventure that spoke to her zest for life.

A devout Catholic, Jeanne was a woman of deep spiritual conviction. She brought people together with her warmth, energy, and an enduring love for dancing. Whether she was leading with laughter on the dance floor or offering words of encouragement to those around her, she lived fully and intentionally.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Roseann McTigue Ingraham, and is lovingly remembered by her children and their families:

Patrick Martin Francis McTigue and his wife Sherry are the parents of Alyssa Ann McTigue Latham (husband Jeff and son Beck).

Peggy McTigue Washburn is the mother of Chad Robert Washburn (wife Jenn and sons Cael and Cian), and Aleta Ann Washburn Luke (husband Steven and children Brian Robert Luke (wife Jessie and children Esther and Ivy), Brandon James Luke, Rebecca Ann Luke, and Benjamin Brady Luke).

Martin Joseph McTigue and his wife Barbara are the parents of Darcy Elgin, and Leslie Elgin (husband Kevin Dimmitt and children Kaia and Kallan).

Roseann McTigue Ingraham (deceased) is the mother of Arin Ingraham Fugate (husband Gabe and daughters Emma and Olivia).

Through her later marriage, Jeanne also embraced her stepchildren, Jeanita Grunder Harris and the late Harland Grunder Jr., along with his wife Anita and their families.

She was deeply loved and will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends from across the country and around the world.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in McCall, Idaho, with burial to follow at the McCall Cemetery. A celebration of life will also take place at John Knox Village in Weslaco, Texas. Dates and times for both services will be announced in the coming days.

Jeanne’s arrangements are being cared for by Hawkins Funeral Home–Weslaco. Cremation will take place in accordance with her wishes.

Jeanne lived her life fully, joyfully, and with great intention. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.
