Soledad G. (Garza) Rodriguez

Weslaco- Soledad G. Rodriguez, 92, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at her residence in Progeso, TX. Funeral arrangements are pending with Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco.

Soledad (Beva) Garza Rodriguez passed away peacefully on December 18, 2022, she was 92 years old. She was born to Begnino and Soledad Garza on August 4, 1930 in Mercedes, Texas. 

The only child of her mother, who passed away after her birth, she was raised by her paternal grandmother Concepcion Zamora Garza. 

She fell in love with Ysmael Rodriguez and they married on July 9, 1950. They welcomed their first child, a son, in 1951 and continued to grow their family with the addition of four daughters. They remained married until his death in 2011.

Soledad was active in the Progreso community having served on the Progreso School Board for several years. A longtime member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church she assisted with fundraising to help build the church as it stands today. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Ysmael, daughter Magdalena, her parents, and six siblings from her father's second marriage.

She is survived by her children Gilbert Rodriguez and wife Flor, Soledad Compian and husband Joe, Melba Rodriguez and San Juana Pena and husband Eliseo, her grandchildren Mike Rodriguez, Mark and Chris Briseno, Claudia Compian, and Eliseo Jr, Celia and Alejandro Pena, and her great grandchildren Maria Cabriales, Lydia, Edward and Camille Corbell and Andrew Briseno, and six sisters and brothers.

Pallbearers will be Mike Rodriguez, Mark and Chris Briseno, Keith Corbell, Eliseo and Alejandro Pena. Honorary pallbearers Edward Corbell and Andrew Briseno.
