Donna - Selerino Calderon, 100, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, TX.  Funeral arrangements are under the care of Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna.

Selerino Calderon, affectionately known as "Charlie," passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024, at the age of 100 in McAllen, Texas. Born on September 18, 1924, Charlie lived a century filled with simple joys and profound love for his family and nature.

Charlie was a beloved figure in his community, known for his gentle spirit and positive outlook. A dedicated family man, he was the best husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family felt immensely blessed to have him. Charlie's love for animals was evident in his daily routine, often found sitting on his porch alongside his dogs, Layla and Spooky, and chatting with the visiting birds.

Professionally, Charlie spent his early years mastering ranch life, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors. He worked as a Field Foreman at Knapp Sherill Canning Company in Donna, Texas, before fulfilling his dream of owning a ranch. There, he devoted his time to gardening and caring for his cattle and numerous livestock, a testament to his hard work and passion for agriculture.

Charlie is survived by his loving children, Ida (Geoff) Burtt, David Oscar (Chris) Calderon, and Norma Alicia (Rene) Oliva; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Gertrudis Calderon, his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.

Charlie's life was a beautiful example of kindness and dedication, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by his family and friends.
