On October 8, 2023, Rosalva (Rosie) Gutierrez peacefully passed away at the age of 68, after courageously battling cancer for three years.
To say Rosie "lost" her battle would be inaccurate, for she never ceased to fight. Her indomitable spirit and unwavering faith in God were a testament to her resilience and determination. Rosie's life embodied perseverance, and quitting was never an option for her.
Rosie had an exceptional gift for nurturing others, reflected in her love of feeding anyone who crossed her threshold, refusing to accept a refusal. This innate kindness led her to a career as a cafeteria worker, where she endeared herself to all as the beloved "cafeteria lady."
Born in Mexico, Rosie's life journey led her to the Rio Grande Valley, where she married her soulmate, Guadalupe (Lupe) Gutierrez, at the age of 22. Rosie was a cherished mother to four children and a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren, along with one cherished grandfurbaby.
Above all, Rosie's heart overflowed with love for her family, a love reciprocated with pride by her four children. Rosie's legacy lives on through her surviving husband, Guadalupe Gutierrez, and her adoring children: Jessica Gutierrez, Vanessa Garcia (spouse Jesus Garcia), Jose Daniel (Danny) Gutierrez (spouse Brenda Gutierrez), and Jonathan Gutierrez (spouse Melissa Gutierrez).
Rosie was a devoted servant of the Lord. For many years, she faithfully attended church services and loved to worship God. Her unwavering love for God and her commitment to her church community enriched the lives of those around her.
Rosie is also survived by her ten cherished grandchildren: Jaden, Jeshua, Elijiah, Esther, Jathan, Gigi, Daniel, Bella, Maiah, and Kaleb Gutierrez, as well as her beloved grandfurbaby, Conor the cat.
May Rosie's memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate to know her, and may her legacy of faith and love continue to shine brightly.
