With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Refugio G. Garza, who left this world peacefully on September 14th, 2025, at the remarkable age of 97, surrounded by his cherished family.

Born on November 27th, 1927, in Sinton, Texas, Refugio—affectionately known to many as Koko—brought warmth and love to all who encountered him. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Rene (Nora) Garza, Edna (Armando) Chavez, and Oscar (Pam) Garza, alongside the joy he brought to his seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Refugio and Rebecca Garza, as well as his dear wife, Eva G. Garza, who was his lifelong companion and partner in every sense.

Refugio was a devoted husband and father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, whose greatest passion lay in nurturing the beauty of the outdoors. His meticulous care for the yard of the beloved home he shared with Eva was a reflection of his love for family and the life they built together.

A man of profound humor and remarkable wisdom, he touched the hearts of family and friends alike with his kindness and uplifting spirit. Residing in Itasca, Illinois, until his retirement in the late 1990s, he created a legacy of love and laughter that will remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

As we bid farewell to Refugio, we take comfort in knowing he has been reunited with Eva, the love of his life, and that his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the memories we hold dear. He will be deeply missed, but his impact on our lives will forever endure.
