Petra Perez

Donna- Petra Perez, 81, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Knapp Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna.

It is with deep sorrow and with much love that the family of Petra Cavazos Pérez announce her passing on Saturday December 19, 2020 at the age of 81 years old. 

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. 

Petra was born September 1,1939 in Lyford, Texas to the parents of Jacinto Cavazos and Cleotilde Cavazos. Petra was a godly woman with a faithful heart who lovingly prayed her rosary every day. She was strong, with a gentle and compassionate nature and the kindest of eyes. 

She loved and was loved unconditionally by all her friends and family. 

Petra was a migrant worker and traveled to many places like Alabama, Ohio, Washington, and even spent her winters in Arizona while working in the fields.
Her family settled in Sunnyside, Washington and she loved recalling her early years there, growing up with her siblings, and the beauty of the land. 

This is where she met and fell in love with her husband and soon was united in matrimony with Severo Pérez Sr. on June 19, 1957 in Yakima, Washington. They were blessed with seven children. The hard work, dedication, and love Petra & Severo Sr. shared was reflected in each of their children. After leaving Washington they moved to Donna, Texas to make a home and continue raising their family. 

Petra's passion was her family and she was most happiest when tending to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always welcoming and her smile and warmth became home for so many over the years. Petra was always filled with laughter and love and if she offered you her homemade tamales, nopales, or an offer to play chalupa-you were instantly family. She enjoyed crocheting, watching her Novellas, taking care of the neighborhood cats and dogs, teaching her grandkids how to make tortillas, sharing laughs with her friends and most of all music. She lit up when the music was on and the volume was up! Her dancing was award winning and if you joined her on the dance floor-you better have kept up! Petra was a truly vibrant and generous soul and will be deeply missed. 

Petras life will forever be cherished and lovingly remembered by the lives of her children Severo Pérez Jr. (Sandra Pérez) Emilia Macias (Raul Macias), Maricela Pérez (Julia McGuire), Antonio Pérez (Belinda Pérez) Alejandro Pérez (Blanca Pérez), her grandchildren Joshua Pérez (Frank Rodríguez) Michael Pérez (Linda Pérez), Amanda Pérez,(Daniel Ramos), Jessica Avila, (Joel Avila), Cynthea Thomas (Jake Thomas), T.J. Pérez, Clarissa Pérez, A.J. Pérez, Riley Pérez; and her great grandchildren Logan Pérez, Ava Pérez; as well as her siblings Elva Muñoz, Martha Patina, Rosalinda Cavazos, Maria Alicia Guevara, Jacinto Cavazos jr., Robert Cavazos, and extended relatives and friends. 

Petra was preceded in death by her parents Jacinto & Cleotilde, her Nana Leonor Cavazos, her husband Severo Perez Sr., her daughters Ana Maria and Norma Linda Pérez; her siblings Elida Garcia, Conrad Cavazos, Louis Cavazos, and recent close family Maria Hernández, Ricardo Pérez, Balam Pérez, Juan Hernández, Santa Gutiérrez. 

A Visitation and Prayer Service will be held at Hawkins Funeral Home on Sunday December 27, 2020 at 501 N. Salinas Blvd., Donna, Texas 78537 at 1pm-4pm for immediate family only and 4pm-8pm for extended family and public.
