Pedro Garcia

Weslaco- Pedro Garcia 95, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Rio Grande Regional  in McAllen. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco, TX.

Pedro Garcia was born in Weslaco, TX on July 12, 1929. During his teenage years he worked with his father, who was a truck driver in the Weslaco area and occasionally traveled to West Texas to work in the fields. 
He married his wife Luciana in 1951 and had five children. Pedro (Eden) Garcia Jr., Juan Jose (Dolinda) Garcia Sr., Irasema G. (Vicente) Gonzalez, Maria Elena Perez, and Miguel Angel Garcia. He had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a family man and a loving husband. They celebrated their 73rd Wedding anniversary in June 2024.  
Pedro’s passion was his cooking, in 1952 he was hired at the famous Keno Cafe in Weslaco. The cafe became popular for its “Quickie” with gravy platter and its famous dinner rolls. 
Everyone would look forward to going to Keno Cafe in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s after Friday night Football games and the annual Pigskin Jubilee, which was held annually in Weslaco. 
After he retired from Keno in 1975, as an experience professional cook he was in demand from several restaurants like Bronco Cafe, and later would be asked by Mr. Ramon Barrera to be his first head chef at the grand opening of the Fiesta Tex-Mex restaurant in Weslaco.  He worked more than 10 years at Fiesta before retiring again. 
His entertainment was dancing polkas, huapangos and especially his favorite cumbias accompanied by his compadres who would invite him to weddings and quinceñeras because they enjoyed his company. 
We will miss him dearly and will always carry him in our hearts.
