Progreso Lake- Michel Guerrier, 95, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at his residence in Progreso Lakes. Funeral arrangements are under the directions of Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco.

Michel Guerrier peacefully died on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at his home in Progreso Lakes, Texas. He is survived by his daughter, Janine (Mosell) Smith, sons Michel Guerrier, Jr., Claude Guerrier, Rene Guerrier, and his wife Alicia, son Marc (Gloria), and grandchildren Sydney and Tristan. Born in Port-de-Paix, Haiti to Agustin Guerrier and Esther Roche Guerrier, Michel first came to the United States on an academic scholarship to attend Columbia University in New York, New York, in 1946. He later proudly served two tours in the United States Army during the Korean War, at which time he became a United States Citizen. Michel worked for the U.S. Federal Government for 25 years (U.S. Army, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Internal Revenue Service, & Department of Justice) and later retired as a Criminal Investigator for the U.S. Department of Justice. After retiring, he started and proudly managed his own private investigative and security guard company (ARC Investigative & Security Service) in the Rio Grande Valley in the 70’s, for over 27 years. Michel consistently championed for political and economic freedoms throughout his lifetime, regularly provided insightful opinions to local media sources, and served as a board member to the Military Highway Water Supply Company and was the first City Administrator and Police Chief to the newly incorporated City of Progreso, among other contributions. Michel was well known for his love of art, music, and dance. He will always be remembered for his energy, passion for life, loving character, & infectious smile & sense of humor.
