Donna - Maria Vera, 92, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025 at The Heights of Alamo in Alamo, TX. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna.
Our mother lived a full and loving life for 92 years before passing peacefully. She was a devoted wife to her late husband Jose Vera, and together they raised a family of ten (5 girls, 5 boys) that became the center of her world. She taught us to stay close, take care of each other, and carry ourselves with honesty, integrity, compassion and to always be humble.
She believed in the value of hard work and made sure each of us understood the importance of earning what we had. She wanted us to grow into good people, not just successful ones. Her lessons stuck with us, and they shaped the kind of adults, parents, and grandparents we became. Mom loved simple joys. She found peace in her garden, tending to her flowers and citrus trees with the same patience and care she gave her family. Nothing made her happier than a house full of kids running around, playing Chalupa and someone saying "buena" or "bingo", the smell of a family meal or making tamales on Christmas Eve. Those moments were her favorite.
Her family meant everything to her. She took pride in each child, grandchild, and great grandchild that she loved deeply. We will miss her strength, her warmth, her beautiful smile, and the way she made every person in the room feel like they belonged. Her legacy lives on in all of us who were lucky enough to know her and be loved by her.
She is survived by:
Daughters Francisca (Juan) Chavez, Maria Garza, Gloria (Rene) Trevino, Aurora Vera, and Rosalinda Vera. Sons Martin (Martina) Vera, Jose Luis (Noelia) Vera, Johnny (Vanessa) Vera, Jesus (Samantha) Vera, Daniel (Vanessa) Vera along with 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
