Donna - Maria Adela Saenz passed away at the age of 77 on Monday, March 27, 2023.  Funeral arrangements are under the care of Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna.

May 29, 1945 – March 27, 2023

Maria was a long-time resident of Donna, Texas born and raised in Edinburg, Texas. Daughter

of Didaco and Rafaela Villarreal. Married Judge Gilberto Saenz on April 24, 1966. She raised

four children: Sarah (Jaime) Pena, Homer (Anna) Saenz, Gilbert (Norma) Saenz II and Nadia

(Mando) Medrano. Her ten Grandchildren; Jamie, Meriah and JJ Pena, Sydney and Noelle

Saenz, Gilbert III, David and Sophia Saenz, Noah and Caleb Medrano and her one Great

Grandchild, Baby Eric.

Survived by her sisters Rebecca Oliveros and Dora Villarreal.

Proceeded in death by her parents, her siblings Zeferino, Roberto, Guadalupe Bertha, Paula,

Amada, Gregoria and by her son Gilbert Saenz II (Feb 26, 1974-Jan 26, 2021).

She was a beautiful wife, a loving mother, a caring sister, a wonderful daughter and a devoted

friend to all who got to know her. She was fierce, strong and hard working. She made sure her

family was always cared for, whether with a good meal, with love and every now and then, a

strong stern look. As a grandmother, her love only grew.

She will be sorely missed but always a part of our most cherished memories. It is through our

Faith that we know she is in heaven with her son by her side, surrounded by the loved ones and

we await our time to be reunited with her.
