Donna - Juanita Longoria Guerrero passed away at the age of 90, on Friday, May 9, 2025. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna.
Juanita Longoria Guerrero, known affectionately as “Cookie” by her late husband and "Janie" by her family and friends, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, at the age of 90 in Weslaco, Texas. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who lived a full life marked by laughter, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to her loved ones.
Juanita was born on August 21, 1934, in Harlingen, Texas, the daughter of Fidela Garza and Samuel Longoria Sr. She graduated from Harlingen High School in 1954, and married Valentin B. Guerrero from Donna, TX on April 8, 1956. She dedicated her life to raising and nurturing her family.
Juanita was a devoted stay-at-home mother for much of her life. She created a warm and loving home filled with home-cooked meals, strong values, and endless care. She supported her children and grandchildren with quiet strength, selflessness, and a deep sense of responsibility. Her door was always open, and her kitchen was often filled with the comforting scent of her favorite recipes and the sound of her laughter.
She found joy in the simple things like making the “specialty of the house” (a simple ham and cheese sandwich), sewing, watching classic novelas, and spending time with her family. She had a deep faith, a quick wit, and a generous heart that left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
In 1972, Janie became an x-ray dark room technician for Dr. Max Roeder in Weslaco, working alongside her sister Bertha.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Fidela Garza and Samuel Longoria Sr., husband Valentin B. Guerrero, daughter Cynthia Ann Ramirez, and children, Moises Armando, Sylvia, Alicia, and Martin.
She is survived by her son, Valentin Guerrero Jr., daughter-in-law Estella “Gina” Guerrero, grandchildren, Mark Justin Guerrero and Angel Ramirez, sisters Ana Martinez, Bertha Carriaga, Irma Cavazos, Fidela (Ramiro) Gonzalez, brother Samuel (Edna) Longoria Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Guerrero family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the friends, neighbors, and community members who have shared in Juanita’s life and supported them during this time. Her story will be remembered for generations as a narrative of grace, resilience, and unconditional love.
