It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Juan Cuellar, who died peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family on Sunday June 22, 2025 at the age of 87 in Weslaco, Texas.

Mr. Cuellar was born on March 30, 1938 in Hondo, Texas. He taught himself to play guitar at  the age 15 and from that moment on, a deep and true passion for music was born.  Mr. Cuellar started playing traditional Mexican music with some of his brothers and close friends. What started as a love for music became a profession for a total of 58 years.  Trio Los Camperos, Mariachi Del Valle and Mariachi Tapatío are a few examples of how Mr. Cuellar’s musical talent and heart warming voice was able to touch the hearts, the souls, and the lives of many in South Texas. Mr. Cuellar had the opportunity to work with famous Mexican singers such as Juan Gabriel, Yolanda Del Rio and Beatriz Adriana, to name a few. One of his proudest achievements was to be cast in the movie Harvest of Redemption, where he played a lead role.

Mr. Cuellar was known for being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.  He was a very active member  of his community, and shared his kindness and generosity with anyone who crossed his path. Mr. Cuellar was a man of strong faith, singing and playing guitar at St. Joan of Arc Church. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of hard work, honesty, faith and perseverance.

Mr. Cuellar is survived by his wife of 66 years Paula Ramirez Cuellar, his eight children Noelia (Rogelio) Martinez, Raquel (Karla) Cuellar, Carmen (Mike) Cardenas, Thelma (Elio) Solis, Juan Miguel (Janie) Cuellar, Valentina Cuellar, Lori Lynn (Cole) Cuellar and Juan Gabriel (Elena) Cuellar, his twenty one grandchildren, Adam Martinez, Abraham Martinez, Emma Marie Alonzo, Joshua Mendoza, Jaqueline Victoria Mendoza, Clarissa Cardenas, Christopher Christian Cardenas, Alayna Renay Solis, Bobbie Nicole Amador, Kalista Jo Hernanadez, Jose Elio Valdez, Juan Miguel Cuellar, Gabrielle Renee Cuellar, Davin Treviño, Paul Rene Cuellar, Pauline Victoria Chacón, Ruby Lynn Cantu, Marilen Iliana Cantu, Clarissa Coronado, Alena Faith Coronado, Jon Cuellar, and five great grandchildren, Abraham Jamiel Martinez, Amaris Emmie Martinez, Ayden Martinez, Aimee Juliette Rodarte, and Nirvana Glory Aguillon.
