Donna - Jose Jimenez, 93, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, TX. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna.
Mr. Jose Ignacio Jimenez was called home to be with the Lord on September 15, 2025.
He lived a long, blessed and prosperous life.
At a young age, he enlisted in the army and helped to defend our country in the Korean War as a tank gunner.
Shortly after completing his years of service, he met and married the love of his life, Maria A. Martinez. They settled down in Donna and went on to have a family of 7. Their home was centered on unconditional love, family, faith and religion.
Jose graduated from Pan American (now UTRGV) with his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and later, while attending night school, he obtained his Master’s Degree in Bilingual Education.
He began his teaching career with Weslaco ISD as a Math teacher. Later, he moved on to a career at Region One. Lastly , he settled down as a district evaluator with Donna ISD. He also gave of his time as a CCD teacher at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He was the back bone of his family and instilled important family values in all his children and grandchildren. He was a hard working man whom gave his family what they needed through his sacrifices and unwavering love. Even in his last moments, he was strong and shared words of encouragement and support with his family. All though his family is saddened by this tremendous loss, he will forever live on in their hearts and through the love they show towards one another and others as he did through his countless actions of service. Jose will be forever loved and missed by all those who loved him in return.
Jose is preceded in death by his son, Jose Francisco Jimenez (Cecilia).
He is survived by his wife, Maria A. Jimenez. His children Teresa (Uvaldo) Cordova, Jose Xavier (Tammy) Jimenez, Cynthia (Manuel) Lopez, Jose Ignacio (Sonia) Jimenez, Jr, Jose Raul (Frances) Jimenez and Ana C. Jimenez. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
