Jose Gonzalez Obituary

Donna - Jose Gonzalez, 92, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at his residence in Donna, TX.  Funeral arrangements are under the care of Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna.


Jose was born on March 9, 1932, in Parras, Coahuila and immigrated to the United States in 1944. He is the son of Pedro Gonzales and Refugia Flores. Jose worked at Tex-Sun for over 20 years. He had a strong work ethic and worked long hours to support his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, friend and member of the community who always made time to care for and support those that were important to him.

He married Maria De La Luz Pantoja on July 9, 1951, and was married for 73 years. Jose was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend throughout his lifetime. He loved his family and extended family very much and made sure to always express his love and generosity. 

Jose was grounded in life by his faith, family, and loved ones. He loved watching the Houston Astros and Dodgers, spending time with his family, and enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys play football. He also enjoyed spending time outside and feeding the birds as well as watering the plants. He liked taking long walks around the neighborhood, enjoyed eating out with family, and loved playing the lottery. Jose also contributed by donating to Presidential campaign and St. Jude charity services every month to show his support and his generosity towards children in need.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Refugia, his brother Antonio Arcieniega, and his son Jose Luis Gonzales.

He is survived by: His Wife Maria D. Gonzales, his 4 daughters, Ernestina Gonzalez, Juana Chavez, Ana Martinez, and Beatriz Reyes; his 7 sons Francisco Gonzales, Arturo Gonzales, Robert Gonzales, Ruben Gonzales, Pedro Gonzales, Javier Gonzales, and Oscar Gonzales. Jose is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, and several extended family members.

His family and all who knew him are blessed by his love and his memory. The family and all who knew him will hold dear the love he gave, his care for others, his generosity, and the positive examples he set.


José nació el 9 de marzo de 1932 en Parras, Coahuila y emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1944. Es hijo de Pedro Gonzales y Refugia Flores. José trabajó en Tex-Sun por más de 20 años. Tenía una sólida ética de trabajo y trabajaba muchas horas para mantener a su familia.  Fue un esposo, padre, amigo y miembro de la comunidad dedicado que siempre se tomó el tiempo para cuidar y apoyar a quienes eran importantes para él.

Se casó con María De La Luz Pantoja el 9 de julio de 1951 y estuvo casado durante 73 años. José fue un amado esposo, padre, abuelo, bisabuelo y amigo durante toda su vida.  Amaba mucho a su familia y a su familia extendida y se aseguraba de expresar siempre su amor y generosidad.

La vida de José se basó en su fe, su familia y sus seres queridos. Le encantaba ver a los Astros y Dodgers de Houston, pasar tiempo con su familia y disfrutaba viendo jugar fútbol americano a los Dallas Cowboys. También le gustaba pasar tiempo al aire libre, alimentar a los pájaros y regar las plantas.  Le gustaba dar largos paseos por el vecindario, salir a comer con la familia y le encantaba jugar a la lotería. José también contribuyó con donaciones a la campaña presidencial y a los servicios de caridad de St. Jude todos los meses para mostrar su apoyo y generosidad hacia los niños necesitados.

A José le precedieron en la muerte sus padres Pedro y Refugia, su hermano Antonio Arcieniega y su hijo José Luis Gonzales.

Le sobrevive: Su esposa María D. Gonzales, sus 4 hijas, Ernestina Gonzales, Juana Chávez, Ana Martínez y Beatriz Gonzales; sus 7 hijos Francisco Gonzales, Arturo Gonzales, Robert Gonzales, Ruben Gonzales, Pedro Gonzales, Javier Gonzales y Oscar Gonzales.  A José también le sobreviven 33 nietos, 59 bisnietos y varios miembros de su familia extendida.

Su familia y todos los que lo conocieron son bendecidos por su amor y su memoria. La familia y todos los que lo conocieron apreciarán el amor que brindó, su cuidado por los demás, su generosidad y los ejemplos positivos que dio.
