Edcouch-Herlinda Sustaita Gonzalez

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved family matron, Herlinda Sustaita Gonzalez, who departed this life peacefully at the age of 95 on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Weslaco Nursing and Rehab, surrounded by family. Herlinda was a beacon of strength, warmth, and unwavering faith, whose legacy will continue to shine through the generations she nurtured.
Born with a heart full of compassion and a spirit rooted in resilience, Herlinda devoted her life to her family and community. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose wisdom and kindness touched everyone she met.
She now joins in eternal rest her beloved husband, Isidoro M. Gonzalez, and her son, Roberto Gonzalez, whose memories she carried tenderly in her heart, along with her dear parents, Jesus and Francisca Sustaita, her brother Antonio Sustaita, and her sisters Jesusa S. Hernandez, Herminia S. Reyes, Odulia Sustaita, and Eloisa S. Contreras, all of whom she held close in love and remembrance.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Rogelio (Josie) Gonzalez, Noelia (Josue) Rivas, Yolanda (Ricardo) Lopez, and Irene Gonzalez. Herlinda was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren, the great-grandmother of 14, and the joyful great-great-grandmother of 2. She is also survived by her seven sisters: Paulita S. Herrera, Malena Sustaita, Aurora S. Elizondo, Elida S. Contreras, Oralia S. Watson, Hilda S. Gonzalez, Mary Lou Cantu and one brother, Arnulfo Sustaita, whose lifelong bond brought her strength and joy. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to include numerous great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, all of whom she embraced with open arms and an open heart.

Her home was a sanctuary of laughter, storytelling, and delicious meals—where generations gathered to celebrate life and learn from her gentle wisdom. Herlinda’s legacy is one of unconditional love, quiet strength, and deep devotion to family that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as her presence once did.
A celebration of Herlinda’s life will be held in the coming days, where family and friends will gather to honor the remarkable woman who gave so much and asked for so little.
