Donna/Mission - Carmelita Flores Hernandez, age 52, of Mission, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at South Texas Health System in McAllen, Texas.
Carmelita was born on May 21, 1969, to Aurelio and Maria Luisa Flores in Weslaco, Texas. She attended and graduated from Donna High School in 1987 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Education from The University of Texas-Pan American.
After graduating, Carmelita began her first job with the Houston Independent School District as a school teacher. She continued her 26-year teaching career at Stainke Elementary School in Donna, Texas.
In 2005, Carmelita met Oscar Hernandez at their place of work. Carmelita and Oscar married on December 19, 2014 and made their inseparable life together in Mission, Texas.
Carmelita was always full of life, which was evident by her constant smile and uplifting attitude. She loved to be surrounded by her family, friends, students and pets, her passions were dancing, traveling, hiking and caring for her beloved niece and nephews. She was a kindhearted soul who was loved by anyone she met. Carmelita was a one-of-a-kind soul that will be dearly missed and remembered by everyone.
Carmelita is survived by her husband, Oscar Hernandez, Jr.; mother, Maria Luisa Flores; sister, Michelle Flores-Rieniets (Lee Rieniets); nephews, Austin Rieniets and Fabian Hernandez; niece, Alexis Rieniets; and was predeceased by father, Aurelio Flores.
Visitations will be held at Hawkins Funeral Home located in Donna, Texas on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary Prayer at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna, Texas on Friday, December 17, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.
