Donna - Beatriz O. Castaneda, 85, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024 at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, TX. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Hawkins Funeral Home in Donna.
Beatriz Orozco Castañeda; born 10-25-38 to Vicente Orozco and Aucencia Gonzalez in La Biznaga San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Beatriz was a wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, friend. She always had a smile on her face; she was the sweetest person ever who was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy who she loved to care for. She looked forward to picking them up after school to feed them and talk to them about their day.
Beatriz learned to sew at a very young age of 12 years old out of necessity, which that turned out to be her passion. On any given day you could find her at home sewing, knitting or crocheting. Mom always looked forward to the Indian Sweetheart election; as she was always ready to sew the new overlay for the upcoming school year. She began sewing the overlay in 1986; Celinda Cordova’s overlay was the very first one she ever made. The rest is history, she sewed almost every overlay after that until her very last one in 2022 for Daphne Baez. How she loved to sew the overlay; she was ready for the challenge of the new design. Her sewing room has a wonderful collection of Indian Sweetheart pictures; she was always proud to show them off. Who knew that this would become her legacy.
She also enjoyed gardening and visiting nurseries, as evident by the numerous plants at her home. Mom, was extremely brave; she left her family and traveled to the United States in search of a better life with hopes to help her family as times were extremely difficult in Mexico. Here she began working as maid, a seamstress, and eventually landed a fulltime job at Haggars for several years until the plant closed down. She never gave up on life and was determined to find another fulltime job to help support her family. She applied and got a job as a cook for Donna ISD Child Nutrition department until she retired in 2014. Mom took great pride in the work she did and made a lot of friends along the way. Mom, suffered hardship but she never gave up; she kept moving forward and was always so positive. She instilled in her children that one must work hard to succeed. That nothing in this life comes easy. She was always proud of her kids and even more so of her grandchildren; she adored her grandkids; they were her life. Renee and Ryan will always be grandma’s pride and joy.
Beatriz is preceded in death by her husband Lino Castañeda and son Ruben Castañeda; her father Vicente Orozco, mother Aucencia Gonzalez, brother Juvencio Orozco, sister Maria Luisa Orozco, 15 nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish her memory and legacy is her daughter Rebecca Castaneda (husband Librado De Hoyos) her grandchildren: Nicole Renee De Hoyos and Ryan Lee De Hoyos.
Her sisters: Josefina Orozco, Atanacia Orozco, & Oralia Orozco
Brothers: Jose Orozco, Aurelio Orozco, Carlos Orozco & Domingo Orozco
And numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed; heaven has gained a beautiful angel. While we mourn such a great loss; we know she is now pain free; rejoicing with her loved ones and watching over us. We are left with many wonderful memories. Mom, till we meet again. We love you.
